Racing Jesus to the Hurting

They're Out There...

You pass by them at the grocery store. They’re in the car next to you on your way to work, and they’re in front of you in line at the coffee shop. They may even live in our homes. Whether we realize it or not, there are hurting people all around us.

When people go through life-challenging ordeals they need someone who’ll come and offer compassion in their time of pain. Yet too often the only ones who visit hurt them even more and condemn them for their mistakes.

Jesus said He was sent to heal the brokenhearted and proclaim freedom for the captives; we know He is always on the move to be with those who are suffering. The question is, will Christians join Jesus in His work of redemption, or will they pick up self righteous stones to throw at sinners?

In Racing Jesus, James Robison encourages all believers to run as fast as the can go to the side of the fallen, to be a safe place for those who are hurting – genuine Christ followers more interested in loving people through a painful process than casting blame.

As you live from this challenging and inspiring perspective, you’ll experience the joy of joining Jesus in His mission to love and redeem people. You’ll never beat Jesus to the finish line, but when you run this race, you’ll never be the same.

Exerpts from Racing Jesus

"We must combine the truth with compassion for people. We can be very sincere, but without the truth we will just be sincerely wrong" (pg. 33)

"Jesus' pattern of constantly running to the side of hurting and neglected people is so important for us because it works. I'm not saying we'll beat Him - we know we never will. But we need to run like we can." (pg. 118)

"I want to be for somebody what I want someone to be for me, when I am hurting." (pg 55)
